The Hannagan segment extends between FR 25 and the Black River Bridge at Buffalo Crossing and the junction of FR 25 and FR 576 along the high country of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The alignment climbs from the riparian corridor of the East Fork Black River through mixed conifer and alpine meadows to the crest near Hannagan Meadow on the Coronado Trail (US 191), with wide views toward the Blue Range and surrounding volcanic highlands. Notable points of interest include Buffalo Crossing and the Black River corridor (access to Black River Trail #61), scenic pullouts along the ascent, and the Blue Vista Overlook just south of Hannagan Meadow.
This segment consists primarily of unpaved forest roads and graded connectors near the Black River. Expect hard packed dirt with embedded rock, ruts, and occasional washboards in lower sections; grades increase as the route gains elevation. High clearance 4WD/OHV is recommended for the Black River approach, especially after storms or spring snowmelt.
