The Deer Springs Lookout segment extends between the junction of FR 166 and FR 124 and the intersection of FR 300 and FR 9847 along the Mogollon Rim near Pinedale. The alignment climbs through mixed conifer forest and passes near the Deer Springs Lookout, offering elevated views across deep canyons, forested plateaus, and the edge of the Rim Country.

This segment consists primarily of forest road travel, with stretches of gravel and rocky surfaces that may be rutted or washboarded depending on the season. High-clearance 4WD is recommended due to steep grades, uneven terrain, and possible downed timber or erosion in wet months.
