The Border Line segment extends between the intersection of FR 300 and FR 9847 on the Mogollon Rim and the junction of FR 9724X and FR 206E near the boundary of Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and Fort Apache Reservation. The alignment runs along the Rim, following Forest roads that trace the historic boundary line and providing broad views across deep canyons and distant mesas. Points of interest include the Mogollon Rim overlooks, primitive trailheads that lead into the backcountry, and the remote forest corridors where elk, deer, and black bear are frequently seen.
This segment consists primarily of pavement and unpaved forest roads, alternating between well graded stretches and rugged two-track with exposed rock and occasional erosion. Steep grades and washouts may be encountered, particularly after monsoon rains or spring snowmelt. High clearance 4WD is strongly recommended.

Safety note
Expect rapidly changing conditions along the Rim. Afternoon thunderstorms in summer bring lightning and flash flooding, while winter often leaves snow and ice across shaded stretches. Cellular service is unreliable; carry maps, GPS navigation, and be self-sufficient.
