The Chevelon Crossing segment extends between the junction of FR 88A and FR 95 and the intersection of FR 504 and FR 169 on the Mogollon Rim in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forests. The alignment traverses piñon-juniper and ponderosa country on the high plateau, dipping through side canyons that feed Chevelon Creek and finishing at the approach to Chevelon Crossing, with broad views into Chevelon Canyon. Notable points of interest include Chevelon Crossing Campground at the creek, the Long Draw North OHV trailhead located at the campground, and spur access to Chevelon Canyon Lake via FR 169.
This segment consists primarily of unpaved forest roads ranging from maintained cinder/dirt to rocky two-track, with embedded rock, ruts, washboards, and short steep pitches near the canyon rims; conditions change quickly after summer storms or snowmelt. High-clearance 4WD/OHV is recommended. The area is noticeably scarred by the lightning-caused Wyrick Fire that burned over 7,500 acres.

Safety note
Expect rapid weather shifts at elevation—monsoon storms can create slick cinder/mud and localized washouts, while winter brings snow/ice and shaded freeze. Cell coverage is spotty; carry maps/GPS and travel self-sufficient. Check Apache–Sitgreaves notices before departure and verify current access to FR 504/FR 169 and the Chevelon Crossing area.
